AIDS Research Alliance

AIDS Research Alliance AIDS Research Alliance (ARA) works to develop a cure for HIV/AIDS and medical strategies to prevent new HIV infections. We pursue these goals by conducting human clinical trials and pre-clinical scientific research. ARA investigates HIV vaccines, innovative anti-HIV treatments and prevention methods, and treatments for HIV-related conditions. Recognizing the important role we play in educating the public about HIV/AIDS in general and clinical trials specifically, ARA also provides diverse communities with new HIV health vocabulary and communication skills, an informed perspective on clinical trials participation, and meaningful options for improving their health.

Additionally, we distribute valuable and up to date medical education in both print and electronic media to individuals and communities affected by HIV/AIDS, and we provide medical referrals to help direct people living with HIV/AIDS into the continuum of care. These essential services benefit both our clients and the public at large. Since our founding in 1989, ARA has participated in research leading to FDA approval of approximately half of current anti-HIV medications and treatments for HIV-related conditions. Working without regard to profit or politics has allowed ARA to investigate a far broader spectrum of promising therapies and ideas, and our research has shown that a wide range treatments and approaches – from inexpensive complimentary therapies such a vitamins to state-of-the-art topical microbicides – can play a critical role in improving the health of those living with HIV/AIDS, and may ultimately be key to stopping the spread of HIV.
